Number of identification
At present (February 2002), 537 pupils have been identified with certitude
(around 55.2 % of the total).
The “ identification ” of a pupil is based on information found in a plurality
of sources (biographical and bibliographical dictionaries, Public Record
Offices, military files, lists of medical degrees, archives of the Museum
d’Histoire Naturelle, etc, etc), following different pertinent clues (signature
or direct testimonies if at all possible, name and first name, place of birth,
age, activity, etc).
In some cases, the identification is at present limited to the discovery of the
birth certificate of attendants (without further information on his ulterior
career), or the bibliographical reference to their publications.
In addition to the 537 attendants already identified, interesting research
leads, capable of conducting to new identifications, are being verified for 108
signatures featuring in the register.
