Preliminary statistical appraisal : sex and age
The vast majority of attendants appear to be men, though 5 women are also
listed, one of whom identified.
The age of attendants is highly variable, ranging from 10 years olds to
septuagenarians.
213 individuals have indicated their age in the register. Of this group, the
average age is 24.5 years; 60% declared an age between 18 and 26 years. Only 3%
appear to have less than 15 years of age, whereas the 40 years up reach 6%.
The addition of data taken from our own identifications, indicate that the
average age is slightly older, and that younger attendants tend to give their
age more frequently than older pupils.
A trend does nevertheless emerge, indicating a progressively younger audience:
- An average of 34 years for the years 1795-1796 (40 % of 40 years up; the
younger: 18 years old)
- An average of 26 years in 1808 (all ages represented, starting with an 11
years old)
- An average of 22 years in 1820 (the vast majority is situates in the 18-30 age
group: a public mainly composed of students)
