Description

Described by the Abachist and Augustinian monk Grazia de' Castellani, the instrument is composed of two vertical perches (poles) 3 braccia high attached at right angles to a horizontal perch 4 braccia long. The perch facing the observer bears a sight, while the opposite one has several holes or other reference points to mark the intersection point of the visual ray. The instrument operates like the vertical verge, the geometric quadrant, and the board of D. da Chivasso.
